I usually don't go by what the cover looks like when I pick out books to read, but the summaries and descriptions of the books. The few times I have walked around the library and took something that caught my eye, I still liked it, but that was probably luck. I don't think you should really ever just judge a book by its cover. Same with people...they're different on the inside.

The cover usually attracts me to a book. But you can not judge a book by its cover 100% of the time. I mean if a book has a flower on it you can't presume the book is on flowers. But you can judge on a book by its back cover, where techinaclly there is a summary of the book for you to decide if you like it or not. Lol.

I do.

If the cover looks appealing and has an interesting title, I'll pick it up. If only the spine is viewable on the shelf, then if THAT looks appealing - along with the title, I'll pick it up.

However I'll then have to read the blurb - the cover is first impressions, but the blurb is second impressions. If that sounds good, then I read the first page (or a few!). The first page is lasting impressions and defines whether I'll buy the book or not.

General rule, you can because book cover is made to be an epitome of the contents. However, if you use the phrase to judge a personality, then you can't unless you come in close encounter with the person.

Generally speaking, I can't and don't judge a book by its cover, we need to browse and read inside and see if it's interesting or inspiring or "that's it!". Some books I bought were with normal covers or without them since they're second-hand ones but I enjoyed reading them.

No,because external display does not portray the actual theme conveyed in the text, book covers are works of publishers not authors in some cases, hence they meant to attract buyers.
