If you try more cuts, to get more pieces, you get too many crumbs.

Depends on the size of the piece and the size of the cake. It could be cut into mere millions of crumbs if you wanted to....they are still pieces of a whole...

I guess you want all the shares to have the same area and shape and start from the center. Then the answer is 8. Otherwise turn around the 8 and you'll get another answer...
