It's virtually priceless. More kids should be reading than on the computer or playing video games. It's the medium that can teach you many things if you are capable of understanding. Through words are many lessons, much wisdom, and history passed with fidelity.

I also enjoy the beauty of a language through poetry.

To experience a good yarn if it's a novel.

To know that other people experience the same things that we do and that it's not "just me" who thinks/feels that way about certain things.

We learn a lot of interesting things from reading stories - things that are not necessarily anything to do with the story - like geographical things, interesting facts about various places in the world where the story is set or where the characters visit. We can learn recipes, beauty tips, handy hints, all kinds of things.

I think books in any language are important, at least, in the sense of they can deepen our knowledge, values, ways of life, etc. from those written/published hundreds of years ago as well as those for us to browse, borrow or buy to read whenever we are free or assigned to read for courses of study or for our ongoing work/research. The world without books is unthinkable and unimaginable, in short, we simply can't afford excellence in every field of study from K-12, universities and beyond without state-of-the-art books planned and published for students to read and study and construct new understanding or paradigm of looking at things that lead to new approaches or applied sciences/humanities. Indeed, we are what we read (I mean our civilization).

In my experience art often immitates life. A book finds its way into your lap and sometimes gives you answers to problems you have at that time. Thoughts are energy and all that stuff
