I think it would be best to go to a gynecologist because they are familiar with most, if not all, the new different forms of contraceptives out there. Plus they can help you figure out what method is best for you.

You can go to your local health department, but, I think your best bet is to go to a gynecologist. He/she knows all about womens issues and things like that. He/she will want to give you a pregnancy test and possibly rule out any female issues or problems you may have that could affect the pills effectivness or even hurt you. The right choice for you is to go to a gynecologist especially if you don't know a whole lot about birth control.

A family practice setting may be the least intimitdating. You can see a gyno, but this is something that your local FP can easily handle. You will likely have to get a pap smear prior to being prescribed birth control pills.Ask if they have a female provider (physician, nurse practioner or physican assistant), it may make you more comfortable.

A gynecologist is a specialist in reproductive issues, so is usually most up-to-date on these matters. Though a regular doctor can prescribe, I would recommend a gynecologist.

Any family doctor can do this and it will cost you less. If you have insurance go see a Gynecologist and have him give you a check up first.
