I don't know if you've noticed but many of the 'students' in High School Musical are meant to be 14-17 years old, but most of the actors are 17 and above. Why don't they just use 14-17 year olds who actually look that age? No wonder many teenagers have low self-esteem because they are trying to get the body figure of their idols, which can be up to 5 years older than them. I found out from a friend that Vanessa Ann Hudgens was 21 years old when she made that movie ( not sure if that is quite true) but still why not use the proper age group to make the movie? I know they need good actors but why not choose others that could do an excellent job with a bit of training?
By the way I'm not dissing it, it's one of my favourite movies!!!

Also in the OC most of the actors are 20-30 years old and they are the teenagers!

Actually, Ashley Tisdale was the one who was 21.
Ashley-21 (now 22)
Lucas-22
Monique-25 (now 26)
Corbin-17
Vanessa-17 (now 18)
Zac-18 (now 19)
Well if you look the age and you fit the role then there is no problem
A lot of 14-17 year olds don't look their age, they usually look younger.

I'm not sure but i know that the actors went through an audition to get the roles so the casting was done fairly.
BTW, Vanessa Hudgens is 18 now.

Because older people would probably be more mature on set and better actors. Also probably more comfortable doing things like kissing and acting out issues like teen sex, stds, drugs, violence and other issues that are in teen movies/shows(although not is hsm)

I dont know why they do that, they do use older age groups and its not that good because they cant act like the actual teenagers anymore.

Generally, people of that age group can't act as well as the older people. Yeh, it does suck that people try to idolise older people, but thats the way it works, and it gets younger viewers watching

I don't have anything else to add that has not already been said, but this clip is funny and pertains to the question. Wait for "Dawson" to talk about how hard it is to be 15.
