You go to the beach/pool and show off your 2 piece bathing suit, but when it comes to your bra and underwear *which are not see-thru* you shut the door? Straight up and to the point please. :)

There is no difference between them... except that one is acceptable to wear outside and the other is not. If you are concerned about what is acceptable and what is not, you will "shut the door". If you are not concerned then you will parade around in either without problem.

OR...perhaps the "shutting of the door" involves the desire to keep alive the mystery and sexiness of your laced undies until you are ready to open the door for someone in particular to be awed and amazed.

Because walking aroung in a bathing suit that looks like practically nothing is acceptable while walking around in your underwear is not. Magic line there somewhere.:)

I've asked myself this before..I guess it's just a weird social mystery..lingerie feels much more intimate while it still offers the same coverage..who knows

Because you wear them for different occasions.
Lingerie is more personal. Whereas bikini's are for everyone to see.
