Having cast one's own die means they have made a choice that cannot be changed. It means that one you have rolled the die(being singular of dice) you cannot change where it lands. There is no turning back.

The Latin is alea iacta est. These words were supposed spoken by Gaius Julius Caesar in 49 BCE when he led his army across the Rubicon river. It was law that an army must disband when they crossed the Rubicon. Caesar bringing his army across meant there was no turning back.

The spelling sounds like Old Middle English, but they are indeed the same thing. Cast die = Caste dye

If you mean cast your own die.

It means set the wheels of your own fate in motion as in you made you bed now lie in it.

In this case a die (singular) is one of a pair of dice
