The Irish who immigrated to the US lived in the NY "slums" got jobs for the bus and subway companies and the police department (and other city jobs) back in the early 1900s. There have always been jokes about the Irish being the heaviest drinkers in the world LOL
Later, with the war between Northern and Southern Ireland, new Irish immigrants came. Many again settled in New York, and a lot in the Boston area. These new immigrants were also called heavy drinkers--and Irish pubs once again became popular.
The biggest joke I heard about Irishmen going to bars was that they go there to either fight or (make love) LOL
Many don't like the Irish war--some don't even trust the Irish.
I find nothing wrong with them (married someone of Irish descent), and grew up knowing more Irish-Catholics than any other type of person.

OK----it sadly seems to be human nature for mankind to want to oppress a disadvantaged group of any kind----this is not a new phenomenon but has been been this way for centuries-------in America it was 1st against the Indians then the Chinese and Irish and blacks-----and with any influx of immigrants whenever there was a substantial in pouring of any race ate one time-----and not just in America either------this is a global thing----always has been mankinds nature. I haven't really noticed, sorry. But please remember that America is made up of people from other nations. I may be living in America, but my family roots are in other nations as well - including Ireland.
