i have been to russia twice to st petersburg and moscow and both flights were from and to heathrow airport

You got me curious so I spent a couple of minutes on the web searching (something you could do yourself BTW).

I found reference to one flight from Luton to Omsk but it does not seem to be regular. Otherwise for a direct flight to Russia from the UK one would have to go from Heathrow or Gatwick to either Moscow or St. Petersburg.

Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Copenhagen are the other major hub airports for travelling from north west Europe to Russia.

If the airline is Aeroflot (flight numbers start with a SU prefix) then it is normally Heathrow terminal 2. British Airways flights usually go to terminal 1.
