BF2142 is basically Battlefield 2 version 1.5. It's the same engine as BF2... It's the same gameplay as BF2 (the new gamemode, "Titans", is basically conquest, except instead of capturing key map points marked by flags, you capture key map points marked by missile silos).
BF2142 does run a little bit better than BF2 from what I've read and personally experienced. The upgrade system is also much different and a little bit cooler imo. You can actually customize your character and unlock more stuff, whereas in BF2 you can only unlock a weapon...
BF2 itself ... is an alright game. It's too heavily focused on vehicle combat when compared to other BF games. It's fun to play, but the classes are pointless... You almost HAVE to play as an engineer or anti-tank to actually succeed... If you do decide to get BF2, I really recommend the expansion pack, Special Forces. It brings the focus back to infantry (with some vehicles, but not too many). This makes the game more fun by bringing diversity. Now you can use the medic class, the sniper, and actually contribute to the team. Plus the extra tools like the grappling hook and tear gas are fun to play around with.

I love both games. Just depends on what your interests are. If you are more into sci fi and futuristic kinds of things 2142, if your looking for more realism of what is going on on todays battlefield, then 2 is your thing. Personally I might give the edge to 2142. I like the weapons, and vehicles more. The graphics are better and I also really enjoy the new titan mode. One of the real great things about 2142, is the load time is alot less than that of Battlefield 2.

To me the Battlefield 2 i better than Battlefield 2142.
Because I like reality version game... But Battlefield 2142 is expensiver than Battlefield 2... So if you don't care about version you'll choose Battlefield 2142.

well, i never played 2142 before, but i played the battlefield 2 and there's one heli that i fell in love with, so i guess i like 2

The general consensus tends to be this:
Some people like the modern setting, others like the futuristic setting. I love futuristic games so BF2142 is perfect for me, whereas a good friend of mine likes using real modern day weapons and scenarios so BF2 is perfect for him.
Game play and graphics are pretty similar, so it just depends on what kind of environment you like best. Also BF2142 does come with a new gameplay mode which is great, cant' beat a good titan match.
Price is basically the same now that BF2142 went down to 39.99 (on EA link at least, stores may vary)
