Hi,

I am not sure what they are called? (storage servers, hdd servers, etc? Please correct me if I am wrong)

What I am trying to do is purchase (where?) a cheap pc tower like case that is designed to *only* hold hard drives (HDDs). It would seem logical (and easier) to just put all my hard drives into a single tower and then connect that to a computer. Is this even possible? What type of cables or connectors would I need? Where might I begin to look?

You would have to run a the HD server as an actual server (so you'd have to have a drive for the installed OS most likely Linux in this case) you'd need enough channels for all the drives and you'd have to have a machine that was thin client capable (or just a standard pc with some kind of flash storage), the actual setup is beyond the scope of this site.
