Some people think that meditation is an "airy fair" activity for people with too much time on their hands! Actually many people find that by spending a little time meditating they use their time more wisely the rest of the day because they are more focused and more relaxed. Meditation has been practiced as far back as history has been recorded. It's also an integral part of the 12 step recovery programs so tens of thousands of people are working on this with their sponsors (guides) to turn their lives around..It's 1/2 of step11. I'd GOOGLE meditation and/or go to the library or used bk. store. They will have tons of resources. There are TONS of different forms of meditation. The general purpose is to clear your mind and some say it's to help them feel closer to their higher power. Some repeat a mantra of their choice. Some try to clear their minds all together and just imagine on a color, a stagnant object, pray, or say positive affirmations. These options are just the tip of the iceberg. I like the mantras because if I'm saying those in my mind I can't think of my exam tomorrow, etc. When thoughts creep in you can visualize them getting pushed into the ocean or fire, buried, swept away by an angel, etc. Don't get frustrated if thoughts keep creeping in. It takes tons of practice to calm them down. Even when you're not meditating you can use some of your strategies to remove worries throughout the day.I'd start out very easy. For me it was 2 mins. I set a timer because my eyes are closed and I don't want to fixate on a clock or you could just stop when you feel like it. If I started out how some books recommend- 10 minutes or an hour. I would have quit after day 1. Thanks for reminding me to meditate more often. Happy meditating!!!

It allows you to become calm. It allows you to rest and to relax, so that you may face daily living with a calmer demeanor (possibly avoiding rash decisions or assumptions).
