All dildos symbolize is the need for sexual pleasure,particularly if you can't get the "real" thing.

Yes, I think so, in many ways.
I think, first of all, it represents the obvious, the penis.
With my own coloring to this punch, I feel they are a sign that humans will find any means of satisfying their more basic needs without having to indulge in conversation or responsibilities.
It is a sign, for me, at least, that women and men are still afraid to communicate to each other, successfully, just exactly how they want "it" in bed. I wonder why this is so. I won't bother to delve into the history of phallic symbols, because a dildo makes the question <> much more repetitive. Well, this is what came to my mind, hope it's helpful.

yes they symbolize the penis. some are very oddly shaped penises also.
