Should current computer model laptops be powered on 24/7 -- assuming you have screensavers, stand-by settings, etc. Is it good to leave your computer on 24/7. A few years ago I was told it is not good to turn off your computer because powering it on-off is bad for power supply or motherboard, or some device within the computer.

Is this still the case with newer models of laptops and computers?

Laptops should not be left on...... but desktop computers can be.

The main difference is how each cools itself off... desktops use ambient airflow as opposed to laptops that use airflow and an interior gel/foam material as well. Laptops CAN be left on, but eventually that gel/foam material will solidify and the heat transfer will be less effective.

Heat is bad.......... for computers it slows them down if it gets too high. Laptops whose gel has solidified run slower because they cant dissipate the heat any more.

THIS IS DEBATE IS FROM BACK IN THE ICE AGE OF COMPUTERS....BACK WHEN PEOPLE WERE TOLD TO USE SCREEN SAVERS BECAUSE THE COLORS WOULD BURN INTO THE SCREEN...

IT DOESNT MATTER - THERE IS NO CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE EITHER WAY - LEAVE IT ON IF YA WANT - OR TURN IT OFF - IT DOESNT MATTER AT IDLE THEY DONT TAKE MUCH MORE POWER THAN A CEILING FAN - AND WHEN THEY BOOT UP , UNLESS YOU HAVE A MONSTER SYSTEM , WHICH IM SURE YOU DONT, THEY DONT SURGE A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF POWER THROUGH THE BOARDS - SO JUST DO WHATEVER - ANYONE TELLING YOU DIFFERENTLY IS WRONG.

Depends leave them on 24/7 ONLY IF YOU REMOVE THE BATTERY.

DO NOT LEAVE THEM ON FOR LONG ON THE AC POWER, WHEN THE BATTERY IS STILL IN IT.
