On last year's Big Brother, Susie described the Welsh language as "stupid" and "backward"

But nobody complained. There was also the odd reference to 'sheep-shagger' from various contestants towards the contestant Glynne - even his name was repeatedly mispronounced by Richard. Nobody complained. In light of this years contoversy in CBB with Shilpa/Jade, I'd like people's views of this?

I agree with Anna - she's the one missing out. She probably would have had a go at anyone who wasn't just like her.

Did you know that the producers tried to stop the two Welsh speaking contestants from using the language at the beginning of the show? Now that did cause a protest, but this was not reported in the English press. Curious, no?

if the comments on the welsh and the name Glynn offended anyone, they should have voiced it then
the Indian's and Asians had a problem with Jade's attitude and they expressed themselves
why didn't the Welsh speak up?

Susie has the intelligence of a retarded greyhound, a face like a blind cobblers thumb, and the last time I saw a butt like hers it had a tail on it.

When she smiled she resembled a camel sucking a biscuit, and when she ate she looked like a bulldog chewing a wasp

She has ears like Dick turpins dog and eyes like a robbers horse and she has the cheek to judge others.

She like many of the other contestants fail in everything and the last resort to make some cash is to try and become famous through stupidity.

Give her the contempt she deserves and swith off the tv.

Spot on, champagne - the difference is that the things said to Shilpa were intended to wound and belittle, and more often than not in a context of bullying and harrassment. To be honest, if anything the haranguing of a lone woman by three vociferous hags was, for me, even more pernicious than the racist comments.

Its interesting that if someone who is white is insulted in an undoubtably racist way it takes a lot more for it to be recognised as such, especially if the insulter is also white. The wars in the Balkans could have been stopped much faster had the blatant racism between the three major groups involved been recognised earlier.

there is a ton of racism and stereotyping and prejudice on tv all the time and it just gets accepted

it is interesting to watch an evening of tv and count the times

virtually every comedy show in the uk makes a mountain of jokes out of racist comments against Americans, Germans, the French and so on and so on

it's all about easy targets and the inability to reflect

We Welsh are so secure in our identity and culture that we don't need to get upset about silly remarks like this one, from a person who obviously has no knowledge of Welsh language, history or culture. Actually I feel sorry for her...she has no idea what she's missing.

If only the completely ignorant would learn - Welsh language is the original language of the British Isles, it only moved westward as a consequence of a multitude of invasions - Romans, Vikings, Normans etc.

There is nothing stupid about the language, but it makes for an odd game of scrabble - not enough consonants, and too many vowels in the bag of letters.

It's not stupid, it's pleasant to the ear. I can't understand a word of it, but I'd rather listen to that, than have to hear a bunch of limeys trying to be clever. Ugh.
