Because an optimist is a positive thinker while the pessimist is negative.you are satisfied with whatever you have and may not try to full the glass where as other person being unsatisfied with the half full glass will take efforts to fill it.It is therefore said that 'necessity is the mother of invention'.Thus positive thinker gets self confidence to clear any problem he comes across while negative thinker has to put tremendous efforts and work very hard to solve any problem.

Hm... and a pragmatist would just drink the cup because they were thirsty.
An optimist would see the good parts of something, and say what is favorable. A pessimist would see the bad parts of something, and say what is the worst of something. Both are semi-realistic.
Why? It's the definition of the words "optimist" and "pessimist". ;)

b'coz an optimistic is a very positive thinker & always sees what he has instead of feeling bad for what he does't have where as pessimistic always think of something which he does'nt have & feels bad for not having it ...............
but an pessimistic never realise that almighty always gives us what we deserve,............ not a penny more or less so better be happy with what we have..................
but i feel sometimes being pessimistic helps us to see the other side......... it make us think - why the half is empty & may lead to some new.............

Its all about how you view and approach things. Personally I am just glad there is a glass at all most days.
