instead of using an eyeliner pencil.. use eyeshadow instead.. i suggest powder and something that is easy to blend.. i have dark brown eyes and green (emerald/dark green shades) works better on me than black.. it creates an effect that at an angle it looks black, at another angle bluish.. its really nice.. smoky eyes does not really need to be "black".. another color is royal or deep purple..
apply the eyeshadow as an eyeliner (try using a slanted eyeliner brush or a round eyeshadow brush - a thinner one).. put on top of your eyelashes on you lids and at the bottom.. after this.. use a smudge brush and gently smudge it.. careful not to erase the lines you made.. if you want a "smokier" effect just add more eyeshadow..

another trick..

using a black eyeliner pencil, line your eyes - top and bottom.. using a smudge brush, gently smudge the lines (careful not to erase it).. finish of by dusting balck eyeshadow over the lines.. you can also line your eyes again the eyeshadow to let the eyeliner say put and create a more dramatic effect..

To create the smokey eye effect you have to get darker eye shadow (two different colors works best) and you take a lighter color and you put it on where it would normally go and then you have to take the darker color and fill in the empty spaces all the up to your eyebrows and to the corners of your eyes and then blend where to lighter and the darker colors mix so it's not too drastic and make sure the colors aren't to dark because you have dark eyes. Hope I could help!

If you go to
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P173010&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=3865
they have a Stila palette created specifically for the smoky eye look..and they show how to create it using these colours. It's a bit expensive, but you can easily recreate the palette with less expensive eye shadows, and this can show you what to look for and how to apply it. Be careful not to go overboard though, as many tend to do with the smoky eye look! Good luck!

It just depends on what you like. But smoky eye doesn't just have to be dark it can be bright or luminous. If you don't like dark circles under your eyes, you can always wear concealer.

Well, girl..1, I have brown eyes, too. You can put on dark, black, eyeshadow first. Then apply liquid eyeliner then smudge them a little.

start by butting a base coat of sliver/lightgrey on your eyes with eyeshadow then add black at the ends of your eyelids then smudge them together

Don't do it if you have small eyes because they would look even smaller so it wouldn't look very nice..
