If I was to dig a hole about 6ft deep and about 2/3feet in diameter, filled it about 18 inch with gravel and lime and then dropped the poo into it, and put a safety cover on, would the lime destroy the poo. ?? or is there something else I could use to destroy it.

The lime will dry it out, you may want my method, just take a spade shovel, go into the land at a sharp angle, lift the lawn up like it was "Hinged" and dump the "Sausage" (snicker) in, replace lawn divot, ya done. An effective means to rid the place of "Yard Yodels". They also make "Enzym" solutions for compost heaps, these enzymes, will also accelarate decomposition of the dog waste, Never throw down a storm drain, these often lead to the bay, this is what we are trying to avoid.

Thats a HUGE whole !!! .. Why not go to the local pet shop and buy a 'Pet Loo' designed especially for the task. You can also buy Biochemicals' that breaks the poo down quickly, safely and without odour.

I placed the one I use under a large shrub, it hides the Loo, and the goodness that enters the soil from the poo feeds the shrub beautifully :-)

Mine has to cope with the waste of 2 German Shepherds, although because they are walked daily I guess its about half of what they produce.

I used to have 2 dogs and we installed a system called Doggie Dooley. I think it is sort of the same idea, but this I know will work for sure. It works kind of like a septic tank- you put it underground, scoop the poop, and mix enzyme with it, and it breaks the poop down. It works GREAT! The only time you smell it is when you open the lid, otherwise you don't even know it is there.

Some sensible answers but Hippy should go out and pick up her dogs poo from pavements and others gardens and put it into the Dog Loo Composter which can be bought from any good pet shop

If you're a dedicated green earth person, just pick up the poops and put them in a paper bag (not plastic) then into the trash can. It wil end up in a landfill and slowly decay and release methane gas which will be recovered by the landfill methane powered electricity generator and put back into the electrical grid. Your dog's poops are renewable source of energy.

hmmm...that's a big hole for some dog poop. Lime would help it break down, but I don't think it will 'destroy' it. That hole will keep filling up, I think...If you put other raw materials like grass clippings or leaves, that may help it. but what it will do is turn into compost...into dirt...it will probably stink...and it will grow, i think. is it that you don't want to pick it up? b/c you can buy poop bags now that are biodegradable. whatever you do, don't fall into the poop pit!

I wouldn't compost it - don't dog faeces carry some kind of parasite egg which, if it gets into the human system, can cause all sorts of problems? The "paper bag, then landfill" solution above would seem a good one. If you can incinerate it, so well and good.

you can buy a proper dog poo dispenser from any good d.i.y outlet! they are buried into a part of your garden ,obviously leaving the lid above so you can access it, they contain some sort of chemical that helps break down the waste?
