Most of what I hear teens listening to is 'pop', like Britney Spears or the Backstreet Boys...

As a teenage girl, i think i can answer this question adequately enough. I am a metal head, my favorite bands are slayer, nevermore, mastodon, children of bodom, etc, and i started getting into that music around about her age. While some of the artists publicity stunts are very very outrageous (many of them promote satanism, for example, yet they really will tell you they are not practictioners of satanism) metal is a good type of music to get out your frustrations. I don't know if she listens to emo, screamo, thrash, whatever, but the more depressing types, like emo, for example, are the ones you should TRULY worry about. many of my friends into emo music are heavily into cutting. I also happen to think that music is rubbish, with lyrics like 'so slit my wrists and black my eyes' and very self destructive. (Why would anyone wanna listen to someone whine about that, seriously?) Whatever she's into, try to tolerate it. It could be a stage, or it could last forever....

It's all personal preferance, but for the most part, teenagers do like metal and rock. What bands/songs is she playing specifically?

No, most teens don't listen metal and rock. As a teen i can tell you that maybe one tenth of our school listens to metal or rock in general. Just watch out if she starts dressing in all black, becomes pale, and starts saying things like "I'm an individual and other people can't handle that." if she does all hope is lost for your child forever.

It's been years since my kids were teenagers, but I love rock and metal too! (& I'm pushing 60!)
Just be glad it isn't gangsta rap, yo!

no hardly not, it all depends on his/her environment if he/she hangs with a group of people that like heavy metal tunes then he/she might end up liking it.
