Why do people hate people who are "big church going Christians "so much??

Question

What is the stereotype?
Anybody care to share their personal experiences?
What is it that they represent that so repulses so many people?
Why is it that Europe hardly has any churchgoers, yet US has so many?

I don't hate any churchoers. I respect others choice of religion. What I don't respect is someone who is religious(baptist in this case) telling me that the terrorists from 9/11 should be forgiven and not denied the right to live in our country just because they killed thousands of people (2 hours after it happened) When you're that gung-ho and don't have common sense how can anyone respect you?
