Are there any other Ancient greek Mythology lovers out there?

Question

Just wondering if any one else really likes Anceitn greek Mythology and history? All my firend sthink i'm mad when i start talking because they don't know why I know much and why I actually like learing lol. I just find it really interesting and fascinating.
Is there anyone else out there?

As a child I read a lot of Greek mythology and preferred it so much more than Roman mythology which I believe was just a rip off from the Greek. Currently, I only vaguely remember a lot of what I read, still I was really into it way back when.

Greek mythology is very much like Aesop's Fables. The characters were invented more for teaching morality than for being worshipped.

The Iliad and the Odyssey make for great literature; had they been written as prose instead of poetry, they would have been the oldest novels ever written, predating Beowulf and The Tale of Genji by thousands of years (and they are also worth reading).

If you get enjoyment out of the stories, read them. Don't let some godbot put you off because they're afraid of competition for their fairy tales.

By the way: in the summer 0f 2006, the Greek government legalized the founding of churches based on ancient Greek myths. Needless to say, the Unorthodox Greek christian cult was very upset because it might lose revenue, never mind believers.

Ever since I was young I adored the Greek Myths, from the basics of Hercules (Heracles in Greek) and the Hydra, to Jason and the Argonauts. I have spent years looking through myth books, reading everything I can. The myths are so intriguing, one of my favorite books is The Illiad by Homer. It tells the story of some of the most ferocious hero's of Ancient Greece. So all in all No you are not alone in your love the Ancient Greek Myths.

There are a lot of us out here. I am part of several organizations in the US who are actually actively worshipping the Hellenic Gods.

You can also try the Hellenion_Chat Yahoo group if you want to ask more questions. There are quite a number of very knowledgable people there and that group is very open to people with a sincere interest.

I've always loved those stories, I read them as a kid. Really a lot of greek mythology is not the different from the hero stories of comic books.
