The death penalty, by electrocution, hanging, chemical, firing squad or gullotin, is already banned/outlawed in many countries because law makers as well as the society has found that killing a person for his crime is ungodly and does not really cure the crime committed except to appease the aggrieved party (relatives of the victims). For instance, despite the maximum death penalty for rapist and henious crimes, rape cases continue to increase and heinious crimes get worts.
Many prison psychologists and governments all over the world are gradually being convinced that death of the convict will not undo the crime, hence, the best way is to find a more lasting solution is to 'reform' the offender to truly change his way so that he could eventually contribute something when he return s to the stream of society after paying his debt in prison.

I am for the death penalty, but I think it should be reserved for only the most extreme of cases. It should never be an automatic punishment for a certain type of crime, and it should never be carried out without 100% certain, undeniable, physical proof. Leave no doubt.
The reason I'm for it is that there are certain criminals that cannot be rehabilitated to become functioning members of society. I'm not talking about the insane, infirmed, or developmentally handicapped here, but rather the remorseless killers. In such cases, we have a choice. We can either put them away for life, at the expense of the taxpayers, and providing them with a lifestyle that is far too kind to them, or we can end their existence.
An argument against the death penalty might state that God would be the best one to decide who lives and who dies. Or perhaps that it is barbaric to kill people in such a way. These are both very hard arguments to overcome. However, it's not the place of law to decide what God wants or doesn't want. Church and State are separate entities and should remain that way. With regards to barbarism, there are many other practices that are barbaric as well, but we haven't advanced past those either. Life, the human condition, is not a perfect thing by any means. It's not fair, it's seldom kind, and it can be barbaric.
All I ask is that if you're going to put someone to death for any reason, make sure you have the evidence to back it up, and make sure you have a person in custody who would be more use to society in powdered form in an urn somewhere than eating three square meals a day in the pen.

keeping religion out of the argument as law is about its people not religious idealism. However in saying that i would be against capital punishment but I would like to see the system tightening the sentences that the person inflicts on the victim and that its realistic.
I think to kill another person because of a crime in a 'civilised' society the law would be no better than the person who committed the crime. I also think that forensics and police/legal corruption has a big part to play in it. I look at the crimes that saddam did against the kurds and i think what an inhumane person, however look at what they then did to saddam it was definitely not humane the allies where no better than saddam and should be embarrassed about the whole episode. Killing a person because of a crime can also have adverse affects as the people who supported the person could turn them into a martyr.
I think reforming people, stricter laws, sentences that reflect the crime (ie that people do more time for rape and murder than for stealing/fraud irrespective of the amount stolen) The law at present basically all about money and not about human beings and basing on respect for each and every person regardless of age/solour/creed/religion
I hope this helps
good luck

Personally I am against the death penalty, but I think it will help you more if you get resources from both sides of the argument. They will both have arguments explaining why they chose their position.
