The other day i felt as if i just had to take a drive with my roomate. We drove randomly down the highway and were about to turn around, when out my window i spotted a red tail hawk. It was sitting perfectly still on a tree, only feet off the side of the road. We turned the car around and parked to enjoy this moment with the hawk, and as we sat there it turned and looked at me. Anyway, it felt like it looked at me. My roomate and I were blessed with the birds company for quite awhile, until a passing truck caused it to finally fly away. I was struck with the overwhelming feeling that i was meant to encounter this animal on this day, and that there was an important message to be had. Any ideas?

I do not know the symbology of the hawk, but I truely believe that it is a wonderful sign. I can't explain, but I think birds are messengers of sort when they show up in a certain circumstance as say yours. I live right smack in the middle of nature and wildlife and hawks are not uncommon. We have one who lives nearby down the draw. When something or a situation stands out to you about an animal, I take it seriously. When my husbands best friend died at a young age in an accident, a coyote would come by fequently up the draw the month following his death. Now coyotes here do have a trail out back. But, it is a rare occurance to see them.

The red-tailed hawk is the messenger bird & can lead you to your life purpose. Its keynotes are visionary power and guardianship.

The feathers and other parts of the Red-tailed Hawk are considered sacred to many American indigenous people and, like the feathers of the Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle, are sometimes used in religious ceremonies and found adorning the regalia of many Native Americans in the United States; these parts, most especially their distinctive tail feathers, are a popular item in the Native American community. As with the other two species, the feathers and parts of the Red-tailed Hawk are regulated by the eagle feather law (Title 50 Part 22 Code of US Federal Regulations), which governs the possession of feathers and parts of migratory birds.

if you're a small rodent the omens that surround the red tailed hawk mainly revolve around death and dinnertime.

as far as any omens relating to a person--i can't think of any unless you are very small, and then you may want to stay indoors if there are a lot of hawks around or the death and dinnertime omens that plague rodents may end up being your downfall!

birds in general tend to mean that there's going to be some changes coming or are asking for you to chnge direction. however; since you just saw the bird sitting on the side of the road there is no real meaning it's just doing what neture say it must.
