They keep claiming that the Bible empowers a man to discipline his wife the way they would an unruly child.

The Bible says a man should treat his wife as God treats the church, and I would say God treats his church very good. I don't think God is pleased with a man that mistreats his wife and blames the Bible for it. God is loving to his church and so a man shall be to his wife.

That's the most ridiculous claim a religious group could make. It would be very humiliating for a woman to be spanked, unless it was for fun. But that's a whole different subject and not what we're talking about here. The whole point of a loving marriage is mutual love and respect. Tell me how spanking your wife when she doesn't do what you think she should is mutually loving and respectful. I believe in God and in the Bible but i believe these groups are not the norm. They live in their own little world and make up there own rules that makes the men into egomaniacs and Persons to be feared in their own homes by their wives and children. How very sad that something like this even exists in America in this day and age.

Ah, but the Bible does grant such authority. Not so different from Islam in that regard. It's a man's world. I am a man, but I am ashamed at the blatant authoritarian mindset that comes with the territory. We strive for equality, and with enough persistence, perhaps one day men will say f*ck the Bible, we have evolved. Here's hoping.

I absolutely believe, spare the rod spoil the child. A little pressure applied to the seat of understanding never hurt anyone as to spanking the wife I would have to say get over yourself, I gotta go

Tell that man to prove it with the bible.The bible tells husbands to treat their wife the way Jesus treats the church(Ephesians5:22-33).So that man obviously has a serious misunderstanding of Gods word.

There is no excuse for physically attacking one's spouse or child, "biblical" or otherwise. Men who think differently should attempt to explain themselves to a judge in a court of law and see how quickly they end up behind bars.
