RPG are the games where you are the part of a story and game is build around a story line. and being the part of it most of the time you play the role of main character in the story.

If you are referring to video games, role-playing games can be defined as games in which there are a few specific characters. Combat in RPGs are often turn-based, and there is often an items inventory.
Examples are Final Fantasy series, Shining Force series, and several other "Action RPGs" that only count if you take a loose interpretation.
