My feet stink. I can smell the odor rising like hot steam from my feet. What is the name of the molecule/compound that makes for this funky odor? IUPAC/Systematic/Common names welcome. Thanks

The chemicals are normally methylated sulfides made from the fatty acids in your sweat that the bacteria eat and then excrete.

Lancenigo di Villorba (TV), Italy

I get not credit toward who thinks to alkyl sulphides.
The latters are known as involved in stinky gas (e.g. farth).

My starting idea is in according to GERVALDF which remember us the role of lightest carboxylic acids, among these the butyiric acid (e.g. its IUPAC name is buthanoic acid). Butyric acid belongs in butter's smelling.

I remember you that any man (woman also!!) had his "personal" feet's smelling. MANKIND'S FEETS HAVE NOT CARBOXYLIC ACIDS ONLY!! I know some men having feet's smelling "sweet" unless "sour".
As you know, the second smelling is owing by carboxylic acids (C2-acid as vinegar, C4-acid as butter, C6-8-10-acids as sheeps, etc.).
I said you that the former smelling may owing by some low-boiling keto-esters (e.g. "sweet" smelling, as french cheeses).

CONCLUSIONS
I am very afraid for people having feet stinked by alkyl sulphides...are they humans?!?
Some people having feet stinked by lighter carboxylic acids.
Some people having feet stinked by low-boiling keto-esters.

I hope this helps you.

The smell of rancid sweat (and of lovely, strong cheese) is that of butanoic acid, CH3CH2CH2COOH.

Formerly called butyric acid.

Bacteria and fungus causes this. Same with all other body odors.
