In a 1000 years what would it look like? Would the moon suck up all the water like a sponge, would the earth have a huge white dessert on one side the planet or would the earth look like a figure 8.
Now remember that the moon didnt collide with earth. It was carefully placed.

I won't answer your question, but I will give you a hint. The key word is "TIDES". What causes tides" . . . the pull of the moon's gravity on the oceans of the Earth.

Now, the next key word is "gravity". Gravity is the attractive force between two objects with mass. The closer the objects the stronger the pull of gravity.

Now, using this information, perhaps YOU can come up with a reasonable answer.

The weight of the moon acting on the surface of the Earth would cause so much pressure at the point of contact, the Earth's crust would liquefy and the mass of the moon would slowly be absorbed into the Earth's mantle. Of course the process of absorbing the moon would probable take thousands of years to complete. It wouldn't look like a figure 8 though since Earth's gravitational field would more than likely immediately tear apart the moon.

This would put the moon inside the Roche limit, so it would break up. It would create tremendous tides, hundreds of feet high.
