im not sure if theyve advanced within the last 5 years or so but i had to get one for community service with planned parenthood and i had for the weekend they attach a bracelet with a plastic key on your wrist to make sure you & only you can take care of it. When it cries you have to stick the key in their back and turn it( when they supposibly need a pamper change) when its like time for him to eat you have to stick the key in and turn in and hold it in for like 10 minutes...i even got blisters on my fingers from holding the key turned so many times for long periods of time. I believe the ones now actually use the restroom and you have to give it fluid(food) I'm not too sure with the new ones now. It has a built in memory drive so that when you return it they open it up and they can tell how many times it was neglected and how may times it ate and it times how long it cried each time you have a limit on how long it can cry before giving it attention and if you go past that time it counts as neglect. Its not near as time consuming as a baby but it helps to prepare you somewhat on how much a baby needs you.

I had one of these for a week in high school when I was taking a child development class. It was kind of embarassing to carry this thing around, it would just cry at random, and then I had to hold a special key in its back until it was happy again. Going from class to class with my books and the doll was very tough to handle also. It was very difficult to take notes in my classes when I had to hold the key, I had to keep borrowing notes from others. I was very lucky that I did not have any tests that week! It was kind of fun too. The kids I babysat after school everyday were fascinated by it, and they wanted to hold the key when it cried. Also, I had a very nasty woman as a bus driver that year. On the last day I had the baby, it started to cry on the bus. Rather than sticking in the key, I let it cry. My bus driver was SO annoyed, but I told her there was nothing I could do about it. I put the key in after I got off at my stop :)

Personally, I don't think that this thing was very much like a baby. You don't bathe it or change its diaper, etc. You don't even give it a bottle when it cries. You just hold the key in its back! The baby dolls in the toy store are more realistic than this thing!

yes i had to take one of those thing for a week and let me tell you it was not fun. i could never get the key thing in it its back right so it would cry louder. and it would record that i wasn't taking care of it in time! some kids in my class even killed their baby and had to plan a funeral and everything our teacher made the kids that faild with the baby plan a real funeral! i think every kid should have to take that class!!

Iam sure it will be more difficult and challenging. When I had that class, they gave us an egg with the teachers signature on it. My poor egg sat in the fridge for a week until I had to take it back!
