This is an old wive's tale.
As the previous answerer mentioned, you take birth control pills daily for a reason. If you miss a single pill, you run the risk of getting pregnant.
The risk of harm to an infant due to the use of birth control pills is negligible if at all existant. While the risk may have been greater in the past or with other forms of birth control, the amount of hormones in the modern pill are too low to have any effect on an infant. The risk of miscarriage is similarly nonexistant.

Believe it or not, I took birth control pills faithfully for over a month before I realized I was pregnant. My baby was perfectly healthy and is VERY ahead developmentally (by a couple of weeks to a couple of months in every aspect of mental development).

no, there is a greater chance of getting pregnant month or two after you go off the pill. And it is not true that you would have a defective child if you get pregnant right away, it has never been proven. I got actully pregnant while on the pill and I didn't find out {and stop taking them} untill I was three months pregnant. And the baby is fine.

I asked my doctor because i am in the same situation. She said that you take the pill daily for a reason. Once you stop taking the pill you can get pregnant and it wont effect the baby. The only thing that she said was to make sure that you are taking folic acid. Good luck :)

no, you can still fall pregnant while on the pill, once you find out you are pregnant, stop immediately, its like drinking and smoking, i was 5 weeks when i found out, i found out on the Monday, and had a massive weekend of drinking, the doctor said this would cause no harm, but now that i know, stop straight away! my sister pretty much just stopped the pill and fell pregnant straight away with no complications at all, i was on the depo shot, was told it takes at least 6 months to get out of my system. i was pregnant within 1-2 months from stopping it, so technically, it was still in my system, and i now have a beautiful and totally healthy 3 week old girl!

You can't really get pregnant right after you go off the pill anyways, takes a few months. Took me 4-5 months...your hormones have to get back into the swing of things basically. :)

Yes you have to wait!! When you stop taking birth control pills, there is still medicine in your body, and if you try to get pregnant, you won't because you are still "immune" due to the pills, or you will get pregnant, but your baby can have birth defects. The best thing to do is wait about 3-4 months to get all of the medicine ot of your body.

The pill screws with all of your hormones.. it will take about 3-4 months to get them back to their normal... natural cycles... The messed up hormones have a high chance of giving your baby birth defects or issues later.
