Depends on what story you're reading. There were the Chinese dragons, who were similar to royalty in their personalities. Then there were English dragons, who only had enough brains to kidnap princesses for God knows what reason. Then there's the dragons in the Inheritance trilogy created by Christopher Paolini, those in the world of Tortall created by Tamora Pierce, those in the world of...do I need continue?

And then there's bearded dragons, which are lizards who live in deserts here on Earth. And komodo dragons, 6 foot long monsters who live on a tropical island. I don't think they have any personality at all.

Depends on the dragon. There are a lot of different kinds. It's pretty standard, though, that you're unlikely to find a "nice" dragon--they tend to either come in Killing Machine or Yes, Little Human, You Are But A Drop In The Vast Ocean That Is My Life varieties.

They are actually very placid unless you annoy them. Unfortunately they become annoyed over almost anything. They do like catnip. It really mellows them out. However if you're wearing anything shiny, such as jewelry, a large flashy belt buckle, swords, knives or similar items, no amount of catnip will keep them from going berserk. A relaxed dragon enjoys reading Nora Roberts novels, gardening and day trading. They are civic minded and often volunteer for PETA. They are seen on Capitol Hill lobbying against the reptile leather industry.

Following poem says it best....

I'm tired of being a Dragon
ferocious and brimming with flame
The cause of unspeakable terror
when anyone mentions my name
I'm bored with my bad reputation
for being a miserable brute
and being routinely expected
to brazenly pillage and loot

I wish that I weren't so repulsive
despicable ruthless and fierce
with talons designed to dismember
and fangs finely fashioned to pierce
I've lost my desire for doing
the deeds that any Dragon should do
but since I can't alter my Nature
I guess I'll just terrify You

Most Dragons are mellow and very wise and intelligent. Just because they look the way they do, they get a bad rap. They are very protective of good people, so it pays to stay good, get me?
