Young people frequently want to know what is meant by liberal versus conservative. People say that most democrats are liberal and republicans are conservative. I would like to expand the generalization to the following: liberal = democrat = don't trust the government = America hater......conservative = republican = faith in government = patriot.

You might want to add 'unpatriotic=liars=scandal artists=commies=friends of terrorists' to your liberal equation - :)

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, assume that liberals are not patriots!

If liberals didn't trust the government, why did a bunch of them run and win? Why do a majority of people not trust the President?

I am a moderate liberal, I am a Democrat, I am an American, I LOVE my country, and I AM patriotic. A far as "being a patriot", what's your definition of a patriot? Everybody's is different, but most people will include in their description that a patriot loves America, and what it stands for, no matter what, support it. I do, we ALL do. We may not all like the President, but the President is NOT America! The Presidency supersedes anybody in that position, and last I checked, many conservatives don't like Clinton. Does that make you unpatriotic as well?

Your question is highly offensive, insulting, and factually baseless. Insult eh Democrats all you want, we can take it, but DON'T call us unpatriotic!

No, that's not accurate at all. Republicans are traditionally more libertarian, they have a distrust of government. Particularly federal government. That's why they support the right to bear arms and states' rights. Democrats tend to favor government that is more active in promoting social programs and welfare. You have to have an inherent faith in government to support these things.

Besides, loving your country makes you a patriot, not loving your government. That's why the first American patriots overthrew the British monarchy.

I think the recent success of the Republicans in controlling all three branches of the government has made many people confused. Even Republicans themselves, who came to see government as something they could trust, since they were running it themselves.

(oh, I just noticed your screen name. That was a pretty good troll, actually)

I enjoy listening to, or reading other folks opinions about many topics, regardless of how much I agree or disagree w their opinion........IF they are able to base their opinion on something even remotely factual.

Pay attention in school, read some history books, & definitely check out a dictionary before using words you don't quite understand!!

Like most people I have liberal views on some subjects, & conservative views on others. I trust OUR government for the most part, but have some areas I don't have faith in government to handle as well.

I love OUR country w all of my being, but that alone doesn't make me a patriot, anymore than hanging a medal around your neck would make you a hero!!

Labels & stereotypes are used by people who are frightened by views that differ w their own concept of reality.

Just the same, please enjoy all the freedoms we enjoy in America, & try to embrace what's been provided you by the BEST GOVERNMENT in the world....Don't Hate.....Celebrate!

Liberal=democrat=loves the government except for law enforcement and the military which they hate with a passion.

Conservative=republican=does not trust the government except law enforcement and the military which they whole heartedly support.

clearly not...

this is so wrong in so many ways, I don't know where to start...

first off... no one should trust the government... it's politicians... watch the news for five minutes... the congress is democratic now and the president is republican, right there everyone has a reason to distrust someone at the very least...

second... it's our job as American citizens to keep the government in check... we are the ultimate check and balance and that is the ultimate patriotic duty we have... this is echoed in many writiings of the founding fathers, who they themselves had to put a government into check...

hopefully that cleared a couple of issues up for you...

the government is here to serve the American people, that is it's NO. 1 GOAL... not for us to serve it... or trust it...

you and me... the citizens ... are AMERICA... not the government... it is only our tool to better ourselves... serving ourselves (the citizenship) is the ultimate patriotic duty...

Young people might want to know what is meant by Liberal vs Conservative "BUT" you surely are not the one to define it.

It looks to me that you need to be educated in the characterization yourself!

It is a fair description of male liberals who happen to be made out of straw.
There is a spectrum of political thought in the US, we do ourselves a disservice when we assume that people who adopt a particular philosophy have other than the best interests of America at heart.

Democrats have always worked for the good of the American people.
Republicans have always had big business's as their number 1 priority, as we see with the present crew in the White House..
Now drink your Kool Aid and say Baaaaaaa like a good little sheep.....

Liberal = protects and defends the constitution = patriot.

Conservative = shreds the constitution = traitor.

The constitution is what makes America the greatest nation in history, not the purple mountains majesty, or the oceans white with foam, or some other supposedly patriotic BS Repubs sing while destroying America.

That's a wee bit exaggerated but I'll go with it.

Liberals have absolutely NO right to spit on Conservatives for "shreading the constitution". You want violation of rights? HERE> http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au9cnSlM2MW4z1tl0W38m7MAAAAA?qid=20070113000021AAsPN3x

Yeah, it may be small things, but smalls things eventually get bigger. Oh well, they tapped the phone wires. BIG F*CKING DEAL. Have phone sex while you're at it. Extreme Liberals are basically responsible for the slow death of our country.

They slow our academics with a whole bunch of "character" bullcrap. They might as well ban cigarettes since you can't smoke them anywhere anymore. And, they apply "fairness and diversity" to everyone except Christians.

Seriously. A big hairy F*CK is not enough to express the hated I'm feeling.
