I'm not talking about how they look, its that some people in photos look like they actually do and others just look TERRIBLE- Even if they aren't in real life. Why?

It probably has to do with subtle posing done unconsciously by some people. Little things like tilting your face at a certain angle can make you look like yourself in a photograph. Also, some people tend to try too hard during a posed picture, which can result in not-so-great photos; small changes in facial expression can have huge differences, especially since a photo is basically "frozen time", whereas when you're talking to someone, you see them the way they are generally instead of perfectly still. Since people are three dimensional "objects" and a photo has only 2 dimensions, the effect of a 3D object turning into a 2D one isn't always pretty and can have certain strange effects on certain people.

I've noticed that some people just get into "photo mode" when their picture is being taken, and they are completely unnatural. This leads to their faces being captured in an expression that looks bad for them. Really good models are able to be natural and confident in front of the camera. I think that's what makes a person photogenic.

I believe that some people actually love being in front of the camera... while others prefer being behind the camera!! Some people can "flirt" with the camera, and act spontaneous and alive when U break a camera out.

Others, on the other hand, go running for cover when they see U approaching with the camera. As a result, those who try to look attractive in photos generally do, and those who are not expecting it or dislike having their pictures taken... generally have less appealing photos taken.

What do you think??

i always thought it was about face symetry and how exactly the same each side of the face is. The photogenic people are usually people with something that stands out ie their jawline, lips, eyes or nose. And growing up with lots of sisters i know that they used to practice their photo pose in the mirror, knowing which way to hold their head ect.

I noticed this has to do with the quality of your camera and a person's sensitivity to the flash. If you have a good camera and good lighting it can make anyone look fabulous in pictures.
