I know many pregnant women ask if women can have period during early pregnancy. Once I also wondered the same thing. When I realized that lots of women do have period I felt very relieved since I started bleeding at week5-6. Even my dr told me that it could be very normal and denied my request to get an ultrasound. So I thought everything was great. Yesterday, I finally talked to a different dr. He told me that my bleeding could be normal but it could also be very abnormal. He set me an appt with an OBGYN. Today, after a pelvic exam and an ultrasound the dr told me that I was going through a miscarriage and I had to get a D&C. I literally refused to believe him. He told me that if I don't get D&C immediately I might end up in ER for blood transfusion. So couple hrs later I did get D&C. Lying on that operating table was one of the most traumatic experience. I couldn't stop crying.
If you have any doubt...please seek a second opinion.

early pregnancy bleeding could be normal but it can't be a sign of miscarriage. Don't believe anything until all the tests are done and it's best if you talk to multiple drs. I feel like I was tricked into believe that my pregnancy was healthy and normal. I really want to sue the first dr.
And when you go get D&C, expect a full blown surgery process. I thought it was simple as a pap smear. I had so many things attached to my body and I had to put into sleep. I never had a surgery before and it was very horrifying.
I hope everyone goes through a healthy pregnancy...I certainly hope that I do next time I get pregnant.

Than kyou for posting this. I started bleeding at 12 weeks. I went to my doctor right away and he did an ultrasound. Turns out I had placenta abruptio. If I wouldnn't have went in I porbably would have lost my daughter. ANYTIME a woman is bleeding during pregnancy she needs to go in. Some women do have spotting but it is better to be safe than sorry. I'm very sorry about your loss.

First of all let me say how sorry I am you expierenced this... however...you can TRY to sue the first doctor but I doubt you will get anywhere. The simple fact is that a lot of what a doctor orders as far as tests has to do with medical insurance/what type of medical insurance YOU have. Most insurances do not pay for ultrasounds any earlier than 16 weeks into the pregnancy, ultrasounds are not cheap and if your insurance doesn't cover the cost they CAN charge you right there and then for the entire cost of the procedure, I don't know many people (and most people I know make AT LEAST$100,000.00 a year) who can pay for that type of procedure at the time.
Second is the type of D & C you had...the reason they had to go through that sort of procedure with you was because you had already started having a terminiaton of your pregnancy (better known as spontaneous abortion) and had they not used those procedures there would have been a risk of infection and other complications, on top of that it sounds as if you were at least 8 weeks along in the pregnancy that takes a more complicated procedure than the more simplistic d & c done earlier on in the pregnancy. Early on they are simple office procedures where the patient is usually awake and is sent home within an hour of the procedure and given instructions regarding bedrest etc. However your's was done because of an already progressing miscarriage which is why all the extra precatuions. Again I am sorry you had to go through this...that is why when I come across questions about bleeding and what is "normal" I very often say yes it is "normal" but to consult a physician. And I agree with you, NO ONE should rely on the information given here as being totally true. But then...I ofen question the lack of common sense from some of those asking questions here...Take care.

Im sorry for your loss. i miscarried at the start of the month and had the exact same thing. Some many people told me it was normal including doctors and nurses. I had tests done (but no ultrasound cause was over christmas and cause had no pain was not high risk) , On the day of miscarriage had 2 check ups at doctors and hospital and was told bleeding was normal and my cervix was closed. Then little later i miscarried. It hurt that no one bothered to check or listen to me.
Its good you did this. People always think a miscarriage is lots of blood and lots of pain. It was not for me.
If you fancy talking, email me.

I appreciate that you took the time to post this. Many women come here looking for advice or answers and often times they get false information or simple speculation. The fact that you are speaking from experience will help many people.
I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. I hope you had someone with you for support. I wish you the best in the future.

Anyone should know that bleeding in pregnancy is not normal at all even spotting calls for a doctor's attention. If your doctor says it is normal then you should seek the help of a different doctor.

thanks for sharing your experience. how did you know something was wrong? how did you know to go to a doctor? i mean, periods can be late all the time, and some women do have periods early in pregnancy...was it just an instinct? or was your period abnormal? (besides being late). i'm so sorry this happened to you...when its early in the pregnancy, your body knows what to do when you are pregnant. sometimes, the implantation goes wrong, and the body will terminate the pregnancy on its own. its not anything you did, it just happens sometimes. i hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you went through that! I had bleeding all throughout my pregnancy and never thought twice when my doctor said it was normal. Doctors really should put more caution into these things. Again, I'm so sorry!

yes that is the stupidest rumor ever, trust me after 3 miscarraiges i should know. i feel that the doctor was just being lazy when she told me that everything was normal. i am very sorry that youve joined this heartbreaking club yesterday. every girl out there needs not think casually about her pregnancy! afterall if you have the slightest worry your in the right to get it checked up! its not the stupid OB that is going to loose the baby!
