Let's make two questions separate - one is copying DVD disks as they are, the other is breaking copyright protection.

Virtually any PC DVD Writer today can burn doulble layer DVDs which are 8.5GB in size. That for the most part will take care of factory-produced DVD9. You can get blank DVD DL disks for $2-4.

HD DVD writers are not quite available yet, while BluRay DVD writers and blank disks are costly. So I recommend you to wait with those.

And copyright cracking - it's widespread for regular DVD5 and DVD9. HD DVD was just recently first reported cracked, and BluRay is holding on for now. In either case, it's illegal.

the other dude is right dvd 9 is just a dual layer disc and requires a dual layer burner( can be bought for under50$) however the only high def burners ive seen are blueray they start at 600$ and discs are 25$ for single layer and 50$for dual layer, you will need decryption software, that to my knowlage dose,nt exsist yet for hd
