To my knowledge, there are no Virginian laws about orientation in the workplace/school (you can check out my source link). I'm sorry, but if the school says no, then there's no fighting it...
However, there are loopholes and such. You can't go as a couple (so no couple discount), but you can still go and you can dance together. If they yell at you, just say they're being sexist and saying that [girlfriend's name] should be able to dance with you, just like any other guy can with you.
If they still fight you, you can file a lawsuit pretty easily with that argument. I had some documentation from the last gay pride I went to, but I can't find it now. Anyway, there's an organization that can really help you fight that if they keep not letting you. If you're interested in knowing, you can e-mail me at davinci.ian@gmail.com and I'll ask the guy that leads my local GSA for the company's name. ^_^

Well if the school said no, then who says you can't go separately to the prom. Bummer I know but then you could meet up inside. After all sometimes girls dance together at the prom and aren't gay. The prom is for everybody and only you can gauge how your school will react. I don't understand how the school could tell you no though. Because if they did, they could have a law suit on their hands with the ACLU. Get ahold of PFLAG in your area and they could help guide you in the right direction.

I'm from Virginia.. a little strict depending on what part of VA you are in. Take your girlfriend and act appropriate so they have no reason to jump on you. I'm not saying your choice is not appropriate, I mean no one at the prom should be all over each other whether it's hetero or homosexual. If they kick you out, you at least took a stand and more people will continue to do so and that will cause change for the better. The power of civil disobedience!!

I'd say make a stand! If you've got your parent's support have them go to the school board and demand equal treatment. Let them know how much it hurts you two to be treated like that. Check with local LGBT groups and see if there's legal protection in your area to counter their discrimination. If the area you're in is more progressive, have a march on the school grounds after school one afternoon with all the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and allies and get the media's attention to it. The school might cave under threat of bad publicity. Threatening a lawsuit if all else fails might get them to consider policy change. Money is tight for a lot of schools across the country and they probably don't want to waste what they've got on a lawyer even if they think they can win the case. Good luck!

Oh man. I would love to say go & have a great time but I don't know how the kids these days would react. In my daughters high school people are openly gay & bisexual & it's not a big deal. I hope your high schools like that. Do all you can to try & go. My prom was in 1984 & I still remember that night. I really hope you have a good time

that would depend on where you live and go to school. in most cases girls going to the prom with each other is okay, where as a gay guy couple starts alot of trouble. if you just want to go as two girls then i wouldn't worry about it and just buy seperate tickets but go together. but if you want to do it officially and go as girlfriends then you need to talk to the guidance counsler or the principal of your school and see what their regulations are for this sort of thing. and please be careful. sometimes this can cause people to get crazy. if you live in a larger city it usually is ok, but if you live in a small town this could cause you problems and you both might get hurt. so like i said be careful and take care. i hope you get to go together. not many people have that chance. have fun. God bless.

of course u can, there's nothing that says u cant. I'm taking my girlfriend to the prom this year. I guess it all depends on how comfortable you are being open about ur sexuality in school. we've been dating since sophmore year, I'm a senior now, so i know which students to avoid, but i had to go through a lot of stuff, with both students and staff, so just be carfull.

Ok, here's a little bit of law for you.
In 48 of the 60 states (excluding alaska and hawaii) they cannot keep you from taking your date to the prom. Trust me, i've looked this up for last year's prom.
They can't even stop you if it is a private school, you know why? It's just like they can't keep girls from playing football, it is discriminatory. the administrators and adults and the prom cannot do anything about it, but some of the students might give you hell like they did me... course i live in a small, highly arrogant and christian town, so i get what i get, i guess.
just go, they cannot stop you, it's the law.

Go ahead!! Shes still your "friend" and you should be allowed to bring whoever you want to the prom... Some people bring thier parent or cousins or just a friend from another school.
If your worried, perhaps you can ask the school about it and see what they think but seriously... its your prom... you should be able to bring your girlfriend if you want to :-)

You could go, I don't think the school wouldn't allow it. Many gay couples went to the prom at my high school.
