If you want to get all technical then Australia is one big freaking island. But so is the entire Eurasian landmass, which is also an "island."
So, if you aren't counting "continents" as islands then Greenland is the big winner. If you're considering a single landmass surrounded by water then Australia isn't even close, Eurasia, Africa and the Americas are all bigger by far.

That would be Greenland...Australia is like a three-in-one (you know, an island, continent and a country)

From what I can tell, in English, Australia is the name of the continent, and also the name of the country on the Australian continent, while Oceania refers to a group of islands that sometimes encompasses Australia as well.
But in Korean, the country of Australia is referred to as "Hoju" while the continent is referred to as "Oseania" (Oceania). I don't know if that helps to answer your question...

technically, Australia is the biggest island in the world. however, it is classified as a continent by geographers because of it's great size. therefore, Greenland is the biggest island in the world.
