First of all, exercise. And at least 2 hours before bedtime or you'll be too wound up. Someone also told me that when I went to bed, if I found I couldn't fall asleep to get up again. If you do this every time then you'll train your brain to associate bed with sleep. So no more watching T.V. in bed lol.

Also, a good alternative to sleep medications is Melatonin. It is a natural medicine that is safe enough to give children. I give it to my daughter because she has trouble sleeping. Take one-two about 45 minutes before bedtime. You can find them in the vitamin section.

And something that works to make me sleeping is milk, eggs, and turkey. I have no idea why, but if I eat or drink those it's nap time!

I've been an insomniac for about 4 years now. The best trick that I've learned (and it doesn't work all the time, but it's definitely helped a lot) is: Close your eyes and count down from 100 to zero. Do NOT open your eyes, and if you do, you have to start over. Make sure you get into a comfortable sleeping position. Don't have any music or tv shows on that you enjoy, or your attention will be taken away from trying to fall asleep. Don't "view" it as trying to go to sleep. Just count down slowly (I do it to the beat of my heart) and if you reach zero, just start again. The key is to not open your eyes. What will eventually happen (with me anyway) is you'll be counting, then all of a sudden your vaguely thinking of something in your life that rolls onto something else and something else and your mind just drifts off without you even realizing it.

Good luck =)
