scroll through and then you highlight one, press delete key.

In Internet Explorer

The search history that displays in the search box on the Google homepage is stored by your browser, not by Google. You can clear the history or disable this feature entirely by following these steps:

Go to the “Tools” menu
Select “Internet Options”
Select the “Content” tab
Within the “Personal Information” area, select “AutoComplete”
To clear the current history, click on “Clear Forms”
To disable this feature entirely, uncheck the “Forms” box
You can also delete individual entries from your search history by using the Down arrow key to highlight a previous search and then pressing the Delete key.

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are referring to how to delete the 'auto-complete' history of your search engine and URL address bar.

Go to Tools \ internet options \ content tab \ auto complete \ and click on 'clear forms'.

You can also delete temporary internet files and clear cookies, and clear history under the general tab.

Get a good cleanup utility like cleanup4.0 (freeware). Gets rid of alot more tracks than that and is flawless for me for the last few years.
