Hitler is an example of supreme human ignorance. He got away with killing so many because he was extremely adept at mesmerizing and inspiring the masses to meld to his will through sheer force of his personality and almost super-human drive to accomplish his goals. I'd say he almost hypnotized his entire country. He was robotic and seemed devoid of the full range of human emotion and feeling and this presentation brought people to believe in his strength and direction. I think the man was possessed! By some force of evil that's for sure! But how he enthralled millions of people is almost beyond reason. It was a vulnerable time for Germany and he became a sort of beacon for their lost souls and psyches. Societies need leaders, that can lead with strength and resolve, and just that "Hail Hitler" salute that was his trademark, says it all. Through his manner of leadership, his people felt some sort of salvation like he was their saviour. And he was, for a time, as Germany began to really prosper under his rule, until it all began to crumble. Losing the war brought the Hitler regime to an end when he apparently committed suicide. It was a strange almost incomprehensible occurrance that so many people stood behind this destroyer with his anti-human ,anti-semetic beliefs. We hopefully learn from past mistakes. I rather doubt such history could ever repeat itself! We have come a long way in our understanding of the human condition but we still have a long way to go! The terrorists of today are the new "Hitleresque" robots with their "my way or the highway" mentality with their total lack of compassion for humankind! They are the ultimate rascist destroyers of the new millenium and 9/11 was the first chapter! Imagine a million "Hitlers" everywhere, that's the dilemma we face now! Who and what will stop them?

1) Incompetent losers always blame someone for their problems.

2) The vast majority of Jews, Gypsies, and other "undesirables" on were killed in the last 18 months of the war. Many had been deported earlier, used for slave labor and poorly fed, but not necessarily killed wholesale. As the war progressed, Hitler went off the deep end in part b/c of the massive amount of speed he was doing. The crazy but still pragmatic Nazis realized on some level that the war would probably be lost and decided to "kill the witness" on a grand scale.

3) How?

Ironically enough, Hitler was 1/4 Jewish. Whether he knew that or not I do not know. Hitler I think we can all agree was a bit mad and believed that the Aryans (he refers to blond haired-blue eyed Christian Germans, although he used the term incorrectly since Aryans are Indo-Europeans meaning that they come from Persia and Asia) were the "master" race. He achieved power because Germany at the time---the 1930s--were in severe hyperinflation and were suffering tremendously. Hitler promised the weary nation to rebuild Germany and to make it the greatest in the world. He did actually propel Germany into the modern world but the reason why he succeeded in mass murder (and it wasn't just the Jews, it was everyone who did not agree with the Third Reich) is because he kept it under wraps. He loaded millions of people onto trains to work in death camps and no one knew until after the war. No one inside Germany could stop him because he was the Fuhrer--the tyrant so to speak. As said before, no one knew what atrocities Hitler committed.

Hitler never really gave a reason. He blamed Jews for many of the hardships people faced in Germany at the time and it was also part of his ideology that Jews, Gays, Gypsies and anyone not of the Northern and Western Aryan branches of peoples were evil or the dilated of the bloodlines and therefore below all others.

The anti-Jew question is one that has dogged Hitler for years.

There is a story that he got syphilis from a Jewish prostitute, or that his first love was a Jewess who dumped him and he never forgot the hurt, but there is nothing to support either theory.

Now, since the Jews had a bad reputation, Hitler foisted the idea that the Jewish bankers helped with the defeat of Germany in WWI to further their own greedy needs.

If you can read "Mein Kampf" (which is a feat, as it is chloroform in print), he puts forth ideas and theories that cannot be proven, but the people needed to rally against someone

Eventually he was stopped. As I recollect the Jews would not help him in his quest for owning the whole world, so he wanted to get rid of them all.He played mind games. He was very convincing at first. He helped the poor people and eventually earned their trust. He became powerful because others who followed him enabled him to do so. I went to Madame tussaud's wax museum a couple of years ago and stared into the blue eyes of hitler. He was a tiny man but with great power.

Hitler believed in something called an Aryan race---that is, blonde-haired, blue-eyed "perfect" people. He, like so many others throughout history, hated the Jews. Maybe for killing Christ, or maybe he was just insane.
No one could stop him because he had so many people under his command. If anyone opposed him, they'd be killed.
He eventually committed suicide.

Well he was a Jew himself, he was molested at a young age by his mother
( a Jew of course) and mistreated, as he grew up he wanted to be a painter, then he began to hate himself and blamed his mother for that and when he somehow gained power I think he was elected or appointed to Prime Minister and then he started his prejudiced there, and he wasn't stopped because people were scared of him, and some he brain washed. are this is what I heard, I also heard that one day he was told by a friend (not a Jew) that Jews killed Jesus and that there all going to hell, and that who ever sacrifices them will have full power, of all life ( also known as the second coming of Jesus) this is just what I read in history class. I hope I answered your question a little bit.
