i have a 305 watt power supply with 2 hdd, 2 dvd drives,the basic stuff, and a graphics card inside my dell5150? Could i fry anything not having a big enough psu? what could happen if its not big enough?

I suggest, you need a 500w or more. It would not fry, but it would freeze esp. your motherboard that consumes a lot of power than any other parts. This happened to me earlier (not more than 2 years ago) and my IC boards got stucked. Make it before it's too late, I do believe you're a heavy duty user.

Moreover, most of power supply right now supports 20 to 24 pins, so your system unit can accept a new one.

not fry but can freeze . If u r a gamer u want a bigger unit like 550 to handle the other things u hang on a puter

It'll be ok. Your system should be just fine.

If it isn't big enough you'll notice sudden power loss and at times it won't even boot up.
