I just found out I was pregnant and I was sitting down looking at something on the internet and I got up and then all the sudden I got these sudden quick sharp pinchy pains in my lower abdomen... Was this normal..? They only lasted for like 5 seconds. I get these pinchy pains once in a while also but not sudden.. Is that normal too? This is my first child and it's late at night so I figured I would just get some insight from you lovely ppl. Thank you.

I wouldn't think you'd be feeling that if you're newly pregnant but who knows. l got pinching ligament pains but they didn't happen till I was about 24 weeks. Make an appointment with an OB and mention it to him/her.

I had this with all three of my pregnancies. When I would get up too quick, turn quickly or even cough too hard it just pulled and OUCH! They become less frequent as pregnancy progresses but they still happen once in a while (I am 29 weeks) mostly if I get up really quick or turn the wrong way (I have woken up from the pulling when I was turning around). It is totally normal and it is not hurting babe. Don't try to stretch it out or anything. Instead sit back down or whatever and wait for the pain to subside and get up slower. Just take it easy.
Now if you had some bleeding or spotting I would worry. But from what it sounds like, your muscles are just making room for baby.
Congrats!

hey! i am 20 weeks pregnant.. dont worry these are normal!! this is the first time your uterus and everything is stretching and its common to feel mentrual like pains still , especially in your first trimester. I still get those sharp pains... like muscle pains as my belly grows. if those pains are joined with spotting or start to take a long time to go away i would advise you mention that to your doctor at your next apt. or even give dr. a call if you're really concerned.

"Cramps
Cramping is quite common in early pregnancy. Cramps are particularly likely after sexual activity or when your bladder is full. In the first trimester cramping is considered normal." taken from http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,23724,00.html

Yes, those pains are totally normal. I have two pregnancy books and they both talk about quick sharp pains and they are fine as long as there is no blood that comes along with them. I have also experienced them when getting out of bed or standing up.

yup, every one is right. They are totally normal as long as they are not accompanied by bleeding. Sorry to get graphic on ya but as along as we're talking about them I used to get sharp pinchy pain right up my a**shole. Weird! Freaked the hell outta me! But doc said it was normal, as are lots of other weird things that happen!

Look up "round ligament pain" and see if that sounds like your experience. I had that very badly with my first pregnancy and now again with my second. The worst was when I had to sneeze really hard. OMG, it literally felt like the muscles in my stomach were snapping. Once I got larger, simply turning from side to side in bed also triggered it. Sheesh... the things we go through to be mommies, huh?! Good luck...

Def. call the doc. They could be normal which I am thinking they are. If it is in your tubes the pain is really horrible. If your miscarring it would last longer than that. But I ignored it my first time and I ended up losing it and it stayed in my body for months so don't take no chances.

i found i got alot of aches and pains at the beginning of my pregnancy.
as long as you have no bleeding of severe cramps try not to worry to much your body is going through so many changes everything down there is being stretched and pulled.
good luck and congratulations on the baby

When I was preggo, I don't remember having pains, but two of my friends had those types of pains. They said it felt like their stomach was tightening or cramping...and sometimes the quick pains like you were talking about. I would call your doctor and mention it to him/her though.

If the pain is not persistent or really bad there is nothing wrong and as long there is no bleeding it should be ok... I get those pains too when i get up wrong! =)
