Keep all rock away from water lines, they may puncher it and then it will leak into the ground and raise you water bill. Just start by laying out the pipe on the ground from point A to point B,where you want the pipe to go. Then dig 3-4 feet below the surface, below the frost line. then starting from where your tying the water into and where you want to go with it, just start connecting the pipes with all the fittings. One of the things I would do is add a shut off valve, in the front, so if you ever need to service the line you would not need to shut off the whole house. Good Luck, e-mail me with any other questions you might have.

You don`t give enough info for a good answer. All I will tell you, put in the best pipe you can find, and over size it. My Grandfather always said, put water pipe, deep, a size larger than you think you need, and the best grade of pipe available. If you wish to use gravel, I would recommend 3/4 inch screened rock.

If you have any 90 degree turns be sure to install anchors.

If you are able to check your local plumbing code book on this information. It depends where your located in places where its very cold the pipe needs to be very deep in the ground and the opposite for warmer places. I live in maryland and I remember digging a trench about 3 ft deep for a waterline to a garage. Im not sure how much stone to use although the last time i did it i believe it was atleast a foot of stone. I really dont understand the other answers saying to keep the rock away from the waterline cause where i live we must cover it in stone and it never causes problems.

It should be trenched in 3 feet deep (below the freeze line*and that's code), you relly don't want any rock in the trench.Be sure to lightly beak the glaze then primer the pipe before glueing for maximum hold. When primering and glueing, you should hold the connection together a few seconds until the glue sets.
That should get you started. good luck
