I put a hot cake pan on the table on top of a towel that was too thin. Now the table has a white ring on it. Is this repairable - if so, how?

Leave it as is. It will remind you not to do it again.

You could sand down that part of the table and then re-apply varnish, wax, or whatever covering is on the table but you would have to know exactly what the table has been covered with. If your table is new you may be able to claim on the insurance and get a replacement or a professional furniture restorer to rectify the damage. Good luck.

3M makes a rubbing compound that will do the trick. Apply liberally, and with a damp cotton towel (a t-shirt is better) rub it in vigorously. You'll need to really use some elbow grease, but if it's just a white ring like you say, that should do it. There are other tricks, but not just anyone can get ahold of the supplies.
If you can't get it, there are 'finish specialists' that can be called in. good luck

Not without refinishing. It's a long process and if your not familiar with tools and products IE Varnishes etc, I'd suggest you ask someone you know that can do this or hire it out.

Unfortunately, you would have to sand that spot. In order to make the repair not show, you would have to re-sand that entire table surface and then refinish it. Quite a job.
