How about if the question were phrased differently: how do you become comfortable in your own apartment/house?
Most people are at their most comfortable when they are surrounded by things that reassure them, reflect their own tastes, reaffirm their own sense of self. Person who had a grey apartment, who loved bright colors, would be quite a miserable person if they never thought to add some color to their life.
What works for the outside works for the inside. You become comfortable in your own 'inner self' by surrounding it with things (traits, accomplishments, activities, ideas) that 'fit' you. A writer wouldn't be very comfortable with themselves if they denied their desire to write. A painter would be quite miserable who refused to do anything to promote their own desire to paint or to even think about the things they would like to paint.
Everyone's house has 'something' they would like to change about it (pick up the garbage more, wash the dishes more regularly, don't use the lights so often) but they don't let the things they would like to change dominate the comfortableness of their environment. You can't be comfortable if you are making yourself sit in an uncomfortable chair.

That's something you will have to work out on your own. No one can actually answer that one for you. Some people never do. It definitely takes years. We go through stages in life. The older you get the more you realize what really matters and the more comfortable you will become. Be yourself and also realize that no one is perfect. Even if you think they are, they too, are uncomfortable in their skin. We are human. No one is perfect. You just have to accept yourself for who you are. It will get better. When you accept yourself, other people will accept you, too.

You make the decision that you like yourself as you are. Each day, look at your reflection in the mirror and tell yourself that you are fine the way you are. No changes needed, not even make up, I am fine exactly as I am. It wouldn't hurt to remind yourself that all of the advertisements are simply a means to get your money out of your pocket and into theirs. I remember the old Brilcream commercials for men. How using their hair cream would make the girls want to run their fingers through your hair. It wasn't true, it was a sales gimmick. Lass, you are just fine as you are. Enjoy being you, because you are unique and needed by the rest of the world just as you are.

This may sound trite, too simple, and perhaps corny, but I found it to be true...
Growing older will help you become comfortable in your own skin. Only living life and having "life" experiences will give you (which is what it gave me) the comfort of knowing who I am, what I am about, and confidence in myself.
And...be true to yourself!
If that doesn't work...try Ativan! ; )

I don't know how old you are or how many people you have dated, but if you have had a few relationships think back to any of the nice comments the old boyfriends or the current one has said about "your skin". Those comments are a positive second opinion that should make you more confident.

Find out how precious, beautiful, and innocent you are in God's eyes. Look to Him, and He'll tell you the answer to your question. Don't look to a man for comfort. Or a woman. Find out how unique you are in Him.

I had to do a whole lot of writing - and a whole lot of asking myself "what was my part - and what was my motivation in "my part" when, at the end of the day I wasn't happy with out the day had turned out.
In the end, most of the time, the thing that gnaws at us deep inside is that we are acting one way - and have deep beliefs to the contrary on the inside.

Walk around naked more. Don't wrap in a towel to do things like your makeup and morning routine. Eat breakfast in bed naked.
