It just seems weird putting those hormones in your body on purpose. I know you have to get used to them but they seem unsafe. Also are the ring and the shot dangerous?

yes they can be dangerous. any kind of birthcontrol is known for blood clots. BAD BAD BAD!!!! worse if u smoke. if u get a blood clot stuck in ur heart u will die at the drop of a dime. i have had the shot and would not recommend it to ANYONE! it makes u very moody. picture urself during pms, then multiply it by 10. i felt really sorry for my boyfriend when i was on it. i know i got on his nerves. crying on minute then yelling at him the next. its worse than being pregnant. been there too. the shot made me gain 30 lbs in 9 months and 3 of those months i was on my period and it wouldnt stop and the rest of the 6 i didnt have one at all. ive been off of it for 2 years now and still, i am far from regular. dont know much about the ring. try the patch. its easy... change it once a week, no moody shifts, regular light period, and NO CRAMPS!!!! good luck i hope i helped u with ur decision

Birth control pills have some dangers and side effects just like any other drug, but these are rare. I used them for many years. The new low dose pills are supoposed to be better than the old ones. Don't know much about the ring, but I know a lot of people who had problems with the shot.

I've used birth control pills off and on for the past seven years, I've also used the patch (made my skin itchy) and the ring. I've been checked out and am O.K The ring has been out for a while and has passed trials, the shot according to my OBGyn is known to make people gain weight.

Generally, no. I would go to a doctor and ask for tests to be sure that there are no adverse reactions. Generally speaking, the pills are safe, and are affective. The ring, I know nothing about. I would be wary of a shot because it puts the full dosage immediately into your blood stream, that could be to much all at once.

The pills are not dangerous unless you smoke or have heart problems. I have neither of those.

I know nothing about the shot and the ring. I wouldn't use them anyway due to no need (no sex).

I have been on the pill for 14 years now due to medical reasons and they have done more good for me than harm.

Yes, they can have potentially serious side-effects. Do not take if you smoke, or if you have a family history of breast cancer.
They can also cause other side effects such as blood clots.
Very slim chance of these, but still.
Oh, and the hormones do interfere with your body. Still, they're relatively safe to use and many people do. But no drug out there is 100% side-effect-free.

well, research has shown that there is an increase in the amount of women that smoke and are on OCP's have a greater chance of blood clots and severe disabilities
also, women who have undiagnosed breast cancer seem to have a disease state that is accelerated when on OCP's
so..if you don't need them, I wouldn't take them, but they can and do regulate periods, inhibit pregnancy, slow down some prostate and testicular cancer's in men
any form of additional hormone therapy can be dangerous...

If you have high blood pressure, smoke, are over 35 or have heart disease or have had a stroke than you are not supposed to use it. But it is safe..especially the low dose pills. As long as you are relatively young and healthy you'll be fine!

And I did't have to "get used" to the pill. No side effects for me
