I dont know if I am an alcoholic, but I am maybe somebody who likes to drink a lot. I can stop, but I do like to drink, sometimes I drink a few while driving, but I drive perfect. never had a ticket or accident ever.
what is your opinion what an alcoholic really is? and what causes it? or is it just another way to make people feel that there is "something wrong with them?"

keep hitting the booze and living in denial bud. and while you're doing that, start designing the headstone for the first kid or person you kill in your drunken stupor. personally i hope its only your own headstone you have to worry about.

First of all, you should never drink whilst driving!!! You may have got away with it up until now; but there could come a time when you will cause a serious accident...prevent this from ever happening!!
There are many causes of alcoholism, such as depression. Most people who feel the need to drink to the degree of being an alcoholic, usually have some problem in their life that is devastating to them; and they are attempting to mask the problem by 'hitting the bottle.' Trouble is, the problem never goes away unless you get help and tackle it head on. The recurring issue with 'hiding behind drink' is, that you always sober up at some stage and reality strikes back; or you die!

Well for a start if you are drinking whilst driving then you have a problem ! An alcoholic is totally dependent on alcohol to get through the day, wakes up and grabs a drink first thing.some people actually say alcoholism is in their genes, not sure how true it is.Others just have a build up of problems and fall into a habit.Who knows, but it will eventually damage your health.A very good friend of mine died at age 35 from cirrhosis of the liver.

Rare persons can like to drink but not be an alcoholic, nor have an alcohol abuse problem.
I am concerned that some do simply because they like to drink too much.
Technically the science types try to say an alcoholic is someone with a brain difference that makes them more easily addicted and not be able to stop on their own.
My mum put it this way:
The difference between an alcoholic and drunk is that drunks don't go to those bloody damned meetings, they can go directly to pub.
As for you, Mate, I am concerned that drink driving may eventually get you in serious trouble. Please reconsider that behaviour it is very risky.

I'm all for doing what makes you feel good as long as you don't negatively impact anyone else, and drinking alcohol and driving may end up with you hurting or killing someone else.

Drinking non alcoholic drinks while driving is perfectly acceptable though, and that probably explains your perfect track record.

OK. Consider this: A few years back, my sister knew someone who was not much of a drinker but had some glasses of wine at a Christmas party. She felt fine to drive and thought she was, until someone ran accross the street in front of her car and she hit and killed them. Because she had alcohol in her system, she went to prison. She is locked up and someone is dead. Good luck with that drinking and driving thing. I sure hope you don't live near me or anyone I know. (PS.....they do not serve alcohol in prison).

An alcoholic is a person who gets hooked on alcohol much like a drug addict gets hooked on drugs or cigarettes. I like a drink now and then after a hard days work but I would never drive even after one drink.

Firstly, yes you are an alcoholic
Secondly, you're an idiot!! Drinking while driving!! Just because you HAVEN'T had an accident yet, doesn't mean you you're NOT going to!! What if you'd hit a child?!! If you do ever have an accident I hope the only person you hurt, is YOURSELF, and not someones son or daughter, you deserve it!
