It's illegal to download without paying. Besides that it is risky to share. Others can view your personal files because your firewall is being compromised...something like that anyway.
Check it out and take advice from experienced veterans...like your uncle.
One more thing. You might think that you won't get caught but down the track- say 5 / 10 years- you could easy be caught and fined for past offences etc. as more advanced technology traces people using data bases and the paper trail of Internet addresses left behind.

Limewire itself is not illegal. The service it provides is not illegal. The users who use the service to distribute software in an illegal manner, however, are breaking the law (though some argue that point, and I am no copyright expert nor software police officer). Unless you are told the file (song, whatever) is public domain, assume it is copyrighted and therefore illegal to download/share...

Technically downloading music for free is illegal. But there are millions of people out there who do it so its hard for an individual to get caught. If the law would take action they would sue the owner of limewire not the people who fall into it and download the songs.

Depends on how people look at it. It is technically LEGAL, because the creators go on the premise that it is made for the purpose of people being responsible and sharing LEGAL files (those without copyrights); they even go so far as to include a little cautionary warning, stating that it was made for the purpose of sharing legal things to save their butts from any legal actions. But the fact that people share ILLEGAL files has made people think of limewire as illegal. But the program itself is legal.

Limewire itself is not illegal. Depending where you live, downloading copy righted material may be considered illegal.

what does ur uncle do for leaving?
lime wire or any other software that is share program which u can down load music, videos, software of some one else computer for free, soft ware that are worth a lot of money for free.
yes it is illigal, but there is nothing charge by law, unless u download movies then sell them, or make CD's and sell them .
but u down load to put on ur MP3's or videos on ur MP3 player or computer for yourself , there is nothing they can do about it and there is nothing they can do to prevent people from downloading of internet.
personally i download songs and Movies, but i buy the ones i like or all the CD by my favorite artist . ur uncle is smart because he know that u downloading ur favorite artist song means less Cd's sold means less money for him or her mean they could stop makin.
NOT BLOODY LIKELY

They are both right. The company itself is not illegal, however if you use it to download copyrighted material without permission, you are breaking the law.

It is illegal. That's why when you try to download something it says something like "This file does not have a license. Want to continue download anyway?"
