I am a teen that has trouble starting and holding conversations, even with other teens I've known for years. I just can't ever come up with things to talk about. I enjoy listening to people, but they don't want to do all of the talking. Please give me advice on ways to fix my problem and questions that I can ask, even to people that I know nearly everything about. And keep in mind, these are teens I talking to.

Sometimes I have trouble with this, too. When I was a teen, my friends talked about certain bands or tv/movies, etc. Usually, listening in would give me clues as to what they found interesting. I could watch or listen to the same stuff, then chime in my opinion. Or go to school events with friends. Ask if anyone is going to the basketball game, etc. Then converstion naturally comes up from activities--You see John; he's in my algebra class, and so on. Good Luck!

these are people that you hang out with? what me and my friends used to do was play card games or board games if conversation topics became too mundane. go miniature golfing or throw a frizbee back and forth or take an after school class together such as pottery or painting. play darts or go bowling.
these things give you something in common, keep the peace except for a little competition and something to look forward to.

Bring a controversial topic up. Race, issues in society, Conversations about something controversial usually last a while and often cause debates lol … oh wait you did say you were going to be talking to teens….how about who the best singer or actor is? Maybe who the ‘’hottest’’ one is? lol
