Go into your control panel > network connections.
disable your land line ethernet connection (not the wireless) with a right-click,disable.

Turn off your cable or dsl modem and wait 5 seconds, turn it on again. Then do the same to your wirless router.

Now find your wireless connection in the network connections area accessed above, and right click and hit 'repair'

Your computer is remembering the DHCP lease it had when it was on the land line connection, it should now connect through to the internet.

You can now re-enable the other connection in case you still want to use it in the future.

Hope this helps.

do you have a router installed in you desktop?? because you need a router installed {wireless} in your desktop, so the internet can send a signal to your router adapter that you have installed in your laptop, they normally cost around $100.
