I don't know, but that's why I didn't like the movie. If they would have just told why or what his motive was, then it would have been a great movie!!! I never figured it out. My husband kept saying he wanted her to shoot him and that was his motive, but why did he just pick her? Was she an ex or did he know her from the past or what? I also hated the fact that Jim died, that was so stupid because every other time the guy was letting them off the hook, but then he turned around and killed him. It just didn't make any sense!!!!

He was a homicidal maniac! He didn't need to have a reason...lol The original with Rutger Hauer was great.

now i haven't seen the movie but i can tell he had a reason because he didn't look like other movie psychos, he looked like a reasonable person in the commercial
